Vetionx announced today the release of a re-formulated version of their popular flea, tick, and mange shampoo, Defendex. The new blend of FDA approved ingredients is exactly the same as before, minus one ingredient – Sodium laureth sulfate.
“With so much controversy over the effects of Sodium laureth sulfate on the hair and skin of humans, we felt compelled to look at the small amount in the original Defendex formula to eliminate any potential irritation to our animal clientele,” said CEO and President, Albert Douibes. “Pet owners put their trust in us and our products and we want them to be assured we take their pet’s health into consideration when we create our products.”
Sodium laureth sulfate or sodium lauryl ether sulfate (SLES), is a detergent and surfactant found in many personal care products (soaps, shampoos, toothpaste etc.). SLES is an inexpensive and very effective foaming agent. SLES has been shown to produce eye or skin irritation in experimental animals and in some human test subjects.
